About this Job
Support workers provide the highest level of care and quality of life for the residents of Aspen Residences and other participants. This is accomplished by: following the established routines and policy and procedures for the program; inputting and planning the Individualized Program Plan (IPP) and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for each client; managing and coordinating activities of clients as indicated in their IPP/IEP; maintaining positive, fun and healthy behaviours, language and social opportunities utilizing community-based options where ever possible; planning events and opportunities for clients both in-house and out-of-house; assisting clients in banking and budgeting, job coaching, other related educational services; maintaining client files using a computer database; preparing or assisting residents in the preparation of nutritious meals. Other principle activities include: Medication Administration; petty cash; recording daily events, incidents and occurrences, contacts, etc.; recording daily, weekly and monthly plans; general household chores and maintenance; maintaining the communications log; researching and becoming aware of conditions or considerations of each client (i.e., autism, acquired brain injuries, etc.).
Preference will be given to candidates with university or college certification in a related field (i.e. Community Support Worker, psychology, social work, nursing, teaching, etc.) although post secondary education is not essential. All candidates must have: Standard St. John's First Aid, and CPR 'C' Level and employment experience which demonstrates an ability to work independently, complete reports, and have an understanding of cross-cultural issues. This position has 12 hour shifts.
