Thomson Centre: Several Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunity 1: Enjoy Yukon’s Unique Places and Special Events with Seniors.

Join the Thomson Centre’s Volunteer Team! Supporting Residents on group outings to special events in and around Whitehorse is a great way to spend an afternoon and have a positive impact in your community. Outings are led by professional staff. Examples of destinations: Rendezvous, Arts Centre performances, Caribou Crossing, Fox Lake, Swan Haven, shopping, lunch or dinner events, curling, Transportation Museum, Wildlife Preserve.

Time involved: 2 – 4 hours, generally once a week, on Fridays, with additional opportunities throughout the year.

Criminal records check required. 6 month commitment requested. Orientation / training provided.

Volunteer opportunity 2: Curling!

No experience necessary – fun guaranteed! Residents of Thomson Centre, Macaulay Lodge and Copper Ridge Place will be wheelchair curling at Mt. McIntyre Wednesday afternoons beginning February 6. Volunteers are needed to help Residents position themselves on the ice, retrieve rocks, and travel to and from facilities (group transportation provided).

Program runs for 2 months, approx. 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

Criminal records check required. Orientation/training provided.

Volunteer opportunity 3: Monday Morning Exercise Group

Assist Residents with exercise in a group setting under the leadership of Therapy staff. Activities may vary from gentle muscle strengthening to sitting yoga and movement routines.

9:15-10:45 each Monday. A great way to start the week!

Criminal records check required. Orientation/training provided. 6 month commitment preferred. .

Volunteer opportunity 4: BINGO!

Thursdays from 1:15 – 3:00 pm. Thomson Centre has an opening for one more volunteer to assist Residents to play the game as independently as possible. Serious fun…
