About this Job
This position is primarily responsible for providing instructional and related duties for the Immigrant Work Readiness Program (IWRP). Reporting to the Executive Director the primary instructor will insure the effective and efficient adult instruction of immigrant clients, while working as a team member with all YLS staff, contractors and/or facilitators and management.
•Prepare the lab and the computers for use before each class and ensure the proper shut-down of computers after class
•Assure that the computer equipment is properly used
•Assess the extent of language difficulties in students for whom English is a second language
•Teach classes in English to students whose first language is a language other than English
•Assist in assessing cross-cultural barriers encountered by immigrant clients
•Teaching students individually and in small groups outside the regular classroom setting, and assisting students within a normal classroom setting
•Teaching students using a variety of methods including lecture and visual demonstration
•Coordinating, planning, organizing, conducting both theoretical and practical lessons in subject areas of instruction in a cross cultural setting
•Instruct/develop programs and courses for purposes of the IWRP
•Consulting and liaising with other instructors as needed, to integrate program/ course content or to team-teach
•Maintaining accurate records of student assessment, progress reports, attendance, background information, terminations, final reports, and employer requests, etc.
•Assign and reviewing students work
•Researching and maintaining effective curriculum through reviewing, writing instructional materials, learning material aids, and assessing audio¬visual resources for content and accuracy
•Coordinate the IWRP program and/or course with the assistance of YLS staff and/or contracted instructors, facilitators and guest speakers
•Prepare for and attend site visits with local organizations.
