Job Description/Duties:
• The Visual Arts Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of the visual and fashion arts program at the festival including: design, set-up and management of the exhibition/gallery, the development and implementation of a workshop/lecture program and the development and delivery of a Northern Fashion Show. This position also serves as the visual arts liaison and works closely with Performing Arts Producer to develop and present overall festival programming.
Requirements/Qualifications:
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
VISUAL ARTS LIAISON
• Coordinate visual artist adjudication/selection
• Coordinator and manage artist contracts and sponsorship agreements
• Serve as the point person for the visual artists leading up to and during the festival
EXHIBITION / GALLERY
• Plan and coordinate exhibition presentation and special features
• Coordinate exhibition installation and tear down
• Oversee day to day operation and management of gallery
WORKSHOPS
• Work with participating artists to develop a public and artist workshop and seminar program.
• Develop and manage workshop agreements with instructors
• Plan and coordinate workshop supplies and technical requirements
• Develop and oversee workshop budget
• Develop and implement workshop promotional plan to include print material, web content and
media ads,
• Coordinate workshop registration and payment
• Oversee delivery of workshops during festival
• Prepare a written report on program; attendance figures, outcomes, evaluations
FASHION SHOW
• Work with Adaka staff to develop a vision and theme for the Fashion Show
• Develop a timeline and workplan for the fashion show
• Identify potential designers and contributors
• Work with Fashion Show Producer to implement plan
QUALIFICATIONS
• Relevant education or work experience
• Job task planning and organizing, research, computer use
• Extensive knowledge of visual arts craft sector in Northern Canada
CHARACTERISTICS
• Extensive knowledge of visual arts craft sector in Northern Canada
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Pro-active and the ability to undertake self-directed tasks when necessary.
• Ability to anticipate, understand and respond to the needs of visual artists.
• Strong interpersonal skills and able to work cooperatively and effectively with others
to set and achieve goals
• Excellent oral and written communication skills,
• Energetic and passionate about Yukon First Nations arts, culture and people
