About this Job

Reporting to the Manager of Medical Imaging, the incumbent provides clinical support to physicians, without on-site support of a radiologist by performing: routine, emergent ultrasound examinations of patients, maintains on-going quality assurance program and maintenance on equipment; clerical/receptionist duties; produces and transmits electronic digital images to send to the Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) for physician interpretations; sets up, operates and maintains stationary and mobile equipment and other related duties.

The following are knowledge and skills required for this position:

• Knowledge of basic ultrasound scanning, vascular and doppler training;

• Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy;

• Knowledge of a variety of high tech equipment and modified procedures;

• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and pathology;

• Ability to deal with emotional clients with compassion and understanding;

• Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with clients, departmental, medical and nursing staff as well as outside facilities;

• Ability to organize, maintain records, prepare requisitions and adapt to daily work load schedule variances and resolve work related problems;

• Ability to maintain and adjust equipment and modify procedures;

• Ability to keep current with technology changes and implement change to ensure optimum patient care;

• Knowledge of safety and health regulations;

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;

• Excellent organizational skills;

• Thoroughness, reliability;

• Cross-cultural awareness.

The successful applicant will have Certification from a recognized accredited school of Ultrasonography, current registration in good standing with the Canadian Society Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (CSDMS) and CPR certification. Knowledge of computerized Hospital and Radiology Information systems, Picture Archiving Communication Systems (PACS) and keyboarding/word processing experience would be considered an asset for this position.
