KDFN Justice Department is seeking a dedicated individual to provide a range of support services to reduce the incident of violent behavior and abuse against women and family in domestic situations. Through the development of community awareness, prevention/early intervention and educational initiatives, the incumbent will work with colleagues to establish, support and effectively address means to reduce the incidence of violent behavior and abuse toward women of all ages.

The desired candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be knowledgeable of community resources and support systems. They will have the ability to create and sustain effective working relationships with Citizens, families, co-workers and professional groups.

-Diploma in Social Services, Community Services, Human Ecology (Family Studies) or equivalent, combined with relevant work experience in the field. Those who possess a combination of relevant post-secondary coursework, combined with recent relevant work experience will equally be considered.

- Professional training and experience regarding the effects of trauma, grief and loss relating to violence;

- Training and experience with crisis management, conflict resolution as well as sound problem solving and decision making abilities are required;

- Experience in and knowledge of victims` issues (i.e.: domestic violence, verbal and emotional abuse, child and elder abuse) and knowledge of programs and community resources available to support identified intervention activities;

- Knowledge of Kwanlin Dun First Nation culture and history, Kwanlin Dun Family structures and relations.as well as an understanding of socio-economic challenges within Aboriginal societies;

- Knowledge of Aboriginal Peoples’ history with formal justice, residential and child welfare systems.
