SUMMER Youth Camp Coordinator – Seasonal Term Full Time – (May 27, 2013 - August 16, 2013)


Salary: Level 3

Reporting to the Education Manager, this position is responsible for the supervision of the Summer Youth Camp Program, which includes one Youth Camp Assistant and up to approximately eight youth ages eight to thirteen years of age. This position takes place at the Community Support Centre with programming at various Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and community venues. The position is responsible for ensuring that programming activities meet the goals of the program, engage the youth in life skill building activities, and activities are delivered through a mentorship approach with the assistance of support people. This position is also responsible for carrying out the program activities and daily schedule to meets the individual needs of the youth enrolled in the program, and ensuring YG regulations and/or Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in policies are followed at all times.

• Any relevant Post-Secondary experience or courses;

• Experience working with children/youth in an early childhood setting or related environment;

• Experience working in a team environment;

• Experience or knowledge in working with First Nation children/youth and families;

• Knowledge of and ability to deal with children/youth with special needs;

• Ability to manage stress effectively;

• Excellent organizational and time management skills;

• Strong supervisory skills;

• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with children/youth, parents/caregivers and team


• Ability to develop and deliver programming;


• Certificate/ Diploma in Early Childhood Education or demonstrated completion of Early Childhood

Education coursework (or related field);

• Knowledge of early childhood development theory, principles and practices;

• Knowledge of YG Child Care regulations;

Conditions of Employment

• Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in personnel. Failure to meet this requirement could result in dismissal;

• A criminal record check is mandatory, as is the need to obtain Medical clearance, TB test and immunization update;

• Valid Standard First Aid Certification and CPR;
