About this Job

Job Duties: As part of the maintenance team, you will provide basic carpentry and maintenance tasks under the direction of skilled carpenters (ie. operating and maintaining power tools, equipment and vehicles, etc.) and assist in the maintenance of historic structures.

Season: Approximately 20.8 weeks per year, normally from May to September.

Rate of Pay: From $20.74 to $22.53 per hour plus the applicable Isolated Post Allowance. *Standard full-time work week consists of 40 hours per week.

Who can apply? Persons legally permitted to work in Canada living within a 550 km radius of Dawson City and within an 800 km radius of Whitehorse, Yukon in Canadian territory*.

Preference will be given to qualified internal and external persons who are beneficiaries of the Tr’ondek Hwech’in First Nation Land Claim Agreement. Candidates are encouraged to self-identify.

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

GL-MAN-03 Maintenance Worker

Klondike National Historic Sites - Dawson City, Yukon

Screening Criteria: Candidates will be screened against the following and must clearly indicate how they meet those established criteria:

Language: English Essential

Education: Successful completion of grade 10 or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

• In the safe and appropriate use of grounds equipment;

• In the safe and appropriate use of basic workshop equipment (ie. power tools, hand tools, vehicles);

• In the maintenance of historic structures.

Rating Criteria: Candidates will be rated against the following criteria:

• In the safe and appropriate use of various power tools and hand tools (such as circular saws, drills, hammers and measuring instruments)

• In basic carpentry and plumbing as related to historic structures

• In operating and servicing equipment related to grounds keeping

• In filling out maintenance records related to building safety and mechanical inspections

• General knowledge in building maintenance.

• Ability to to communicate effectively orally;

• Ability to perform a variety of labour tasks in a safe manner;

• Ability to work with minimal supervision.

• Personally connects with people;

• Takes responsibility;

• Demonstrates integrity.

• Security Screening: Obtain and maintain Reliability Status;

• Possession and maintenance of a valid class five driver’s license or provincial equivalent.

• Successfully complete safety courses and training as required.

• Successfully pass and maintain pre-employment Occupational Health Assessment and periodic medical checks.

• Required to Wear a Parks Canada uniform;

• Work weekends, shift work and irregular hours as required, with advance notice;

• Use appropriate safety equipment and protective equipment at all times in the performance of duties;

• Travel / work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain.
