About this Job

Reporting directly to Social and Health Manager, the Family Support Worker (FSW) will also work collectively with Ministry of Child and Family Development (MCFD) along with external organizations. The FSW will support families when dealing with issues pertaining to MCFD. The FSW will facilitate and coordinate linkages between family, family members and resource workers. Specifically, this position exists to support families within the community of Atlin unless delegated otherwise by leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Coordinate and facilitate workshops

•Conduct needs assessments and develop case plans

•Make appropriate referrals

•Work with Social and Health Team to develop case management

•Recruit and support local foster families

•Advocate with external agencies to support families

•Facilitate integrated case management approach with MCFD, Victim

Services, RCMP as appropriate.

•Liaise and advocate with doctors, lawyers, court, school, and other

professional network on behalf of client

•Prepare and submit reports as required interim and annually as per

contribution agreement

Education and Qualifications:

•Completion of diploma or degree in Social Work with experience in

cross cultural setting or four years working directly with Child Welfare

in a First Nation community.

•Knowledge of TRTFN tradition and culture, programs and services

along with the whole community of Atlin

•Ability to work in a high stress and potentially volatile environment

•Knowledge of TRTFN policies and procedure

•Knowledge of BC, Yukon Child/Family Act along with inter-provincial

protocol agreements & MCFD Child Protection Policy

•Ability to work independently and interdependently

•Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically

•Be able to effectively problem solve and make day to day decisions.

•Mandatory confidentiality

•Criminal record check is mandatory

•Class 5 drivers license and willingness to travel when required
